The Making of Mud Mother

Blessings, My name is Clairese Mayo and I am a multidisciplinary artist with experience in the mediums of paint, pottery, tattoo ink, and textiles. I like to explore the relationship of creating and mothering my daughter as a sovereign or “solo” parent. I trained in classical ballet for most of my life and I desire to bring movement to my artwork that can move, connect, and inspire people to live expressively. The redwood forest and coastline of Humboldt county CA has been home for me and my family for over 4 generations and is the location of Mud Mother Studio. My travels, lived experiences, musicality, mythology, indigenous and philosophical perspective remain the center of my works' meaning.

I am motivated to create art inspired by visions and insights apart of the spectrum of this human experience. My art is an item of poetry where I feel I can deliver messages made for intuitive translation. I integrate guidance from the sacred wisdoms of the earth, its directions, and the sky from which I nurture my creative visions into the physical world. I trust in the power of the arts to be a bridge for consciousness to remember itself and that creating is our responsibility as people to assist our journey for a better world.

My art is a functional outreach of my heart made intentionally by hand to mature with you. Each handmade piece is crafted by story, a talisman that will adorn and enhance your life. I welcome you to embrace life, rediscover yourself so we may empower relationship with our ocean, the land, and all her fauna.

Thank you for being.

Love, Clairese
